Key Stage 2: Building Strong Foundations for Lifelong Learning
Key Stage 2 spans Years 3 to 6 and plays a crucial role in deepening students’ understanding across core subjects like English, Mathematics, Science, and the Humanities. During these years, children grow in independence, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. They are encouraged to explore new ideas, build strong literacy and numeracy skills, and develop confidence in communication and collaboration. With a balance of academic rigour and creative opportunities, students are well-prepared for the transition to secondary education.

Year 3 Overview
In Year 3, students make the important transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. The curriculum introduces more structured learning across core subjects. Pupils strengthen their foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, while also exploring science topics like rocks, plants, and forces. There's an increased emphasis on independent learning and developing curiosity through subjects like history, geography, and art.
Year 4 Overview
Year 4 builds on prior knowledge and deepens students' understanding of complex topics. In mathematics, children tackle times tables, fractions, and problem-solving. English lessons focus on grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. Science explores electricity and states of matter. Students also gain confidence in presenting ideas and working collaboratively, helping develop social and emotional skills.
Year 5 Overview
In Year 5, learning becomes more advanced and analytical. Pupils read and write across a wider range of genres and learn to support their ideas with evidence. Maths challenges increase with work on decimals, percentages, and geometry. Science topics like space, forces, and materials encourage investigative thinking. There's also greater integration of computing, languages, and global awareness across the curriculum.
Year 6 Overview
Year 6 is the final stage of primary education and prepares students for the transition to secondary school. Pupils consolidate their literacy and numeracy skills, with a focus on reasoning, critical thinking, and exam strategies. In science, they explore evolution, light, and the circulatory system. This year also promotes leadership, responsibility, and resilience through group projects and preparation for future learning pathways.
